Places of interest: Los Hervideros

The Hervideros de Lanzarote are one of the most impressive natural formations on the island, offering an unparalleled spectacle where the force of the ocean and the volcanic landscape come together. Located on the southwest coast of the island, between El Golfo and the Janubio Salt Flats, these cliffs formed by ancient volcanic eruptions allow you to observe the power of the sea when the waves violently hit the rocks and volcanic caves. The name “Hervideros” comes from the visual and sound effect that is generated when the water from the Atlantic seeps into the cracks and cavities of the rocks, creating the sensation that the water “boils” when it comes into contact with the earth. This area is the result of the 18th century eruptions, when lava flows reached the sea, cooling quickly and creating these steep and mysterious landscapes. During your visit, you will be able to observe how the water penetrates the cavities, generating spectacular jets and swirls of foam. Furthermore, Lanzarote’s volcanic landscape, with its characteristic black and red rock, contrasts impressively with the intense blue of the ocean, making Los Hervideros an ideal place for nature and photography lovers. To get to Los Hervideros from Costa Teguise, one of the main tourist centers of Lanzarote, the drive is relatively simple and short. Costa Teguise is located about 35 kilometers from Los Hervideros, and the trip takes approximately 40 minutes. First, you must take the LZ-2 highway towards the south, towards Yaiza. This main road crosses the heart of the island, allowing you to enjoy the desert and volcanic landscapes that characterize Lanzarote. Upon arriving in Yaiza, follow the signs indicating the direction towards El Golfo and take the LZ-703 road, which will take you directly to Los Hervideros. Along the way, you can make a stop at the Salinas de Janubio, the largest salt flats in the Canary Islands, which also offer a picturesque and unique view of the traditional salt extraction process. When you arrive at Los Hervideros, you will find a small parking lot and several trails that take you to different viewpoints from where you can observe the natural phenomenon. The paths are safe and do not require great physical effort, which makes the visit suitable for all types of public. The sound of the sea crashing against the rocks and the impressive views make the experience unforgettable. In addition, you can take advantage of the trip to visit other nearby attractions, such as Charco de los Clicos, an intense green lagoon, or enjoy the volcanic beaches that are found in the surrounding area.
